20 Years of Empowering Choices: The MSI Ghana Story

For 20 years, MSI Ghana has worked to make reproductive healthcare more accessible to people across Ghana, helping individuals and families make informed choices about their bodies, their health, and their futures.
This year, MSI Ghana celebrates two decades of that work under the anniversary theme “20 Years of Empowering Choices.”
The milestone represents more than two decades of service. It represents the people reached, the healthcare providers who have delivered care, the teams who have supported the work, and the choices made possible through access to reproductive healthcare.
Over the past 20 years, MSI Ghana has provided more than 1.8 million reproductive health services and delivered more than 6.6 million couple-years of protection.
Behind these figures are individual experiences: a woman deciding when to have a child, a young person seeking information and care, a couple planning their future, or a healthcare provider helping a client access the service they need.
A journey built around choice
MSI Ghana began its journey in Ghana two decades ago with a commitment to expanding access to reproductive healthcare.
That commitment has grown into a national service delivery network supported by clinical teams, outreach workers, healthcare professionals, partners and staff working across the country.
For Ms Clara Nyarkoah Anim, Director of Programs, the anniversary is an opportunity to recognise the human stories behind MSI Ghana’s work.
“As we unveil this logo, we are not simply marking 20 years. We are opening the door to a story of courage, care, impact and choice,” she said.
The anniversary therefore provides an opportunity to reflect not only on what MSI Ghana has delivered, but also on what access to reproductive healthcare has made possible for people across the country.
The people behind the work
MSI Ghana’s progress over the past two decades has been driven by people working in different roles and locations.
From the Support Office to outreach teams and clinical facilities, staff contribute to ensuring that services reach communities across Ghana.
Some work behind the scenes to keep the organisation running. Others travel to communities to extend access to care, while healthcare providers work directly with clients.
Ms Pamela Ellen Batiir, Head of Human Resource and Administration, said the anniversary reflects the contribution of the entire MSI Ghana team.
“It also tells us that we have a very robust clinical infrastructure and we also have a collaborative workplace,” she said.
She added that the organisation’s achievements have been made possible by the dedication of its staff.
“Whether you serve in the support office or you are in our outreach teams or you deliver direct care to our clients who are across this country, your efforts have brought our mission to life,” Ms Batiir said.
Looking ahead
While the anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect, MSI Ghana is also focused on the future.
The organisation plans to continue strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding its reach to underserved communities.
This means building on the experience and partnerships developed over the past 20 years while continuing to respond to the changing needs of the people it serves.
Twenty Stories of Choice
A central part of the anniversary will be bringing these experiences to life through “20 Stories of Choice.”
Over the next three months, MSI Ghana will share real voices and experiences connected to its work.
The stories will feature people who have delivered services, supported the organisation, built partnerships and experienced the impact of accessible reproductive healthcare.
As Ms Anim said:
“You will meet 20 Stories of Choice, real voices and experiences that reflect the heart of our work.”
The initiative will give audiences an opportunity to see the anniversary through the experiences of the people who have shaped and been part of MSI Ghana’s journey.
The next chapter
MSI Ghana began its 20th anniversary celebrations on September 1 with the unveiling of its new anniversary logo at the Support Office in Accra.
The logo will be used across the organisation’s corporate platforms, office materials and external communications during the anniversary period.
The celebrations will continue over the next three months and culminate in a special event in December.
For MSI Ghana, however, the anniversary is not simply a celebration of the past. It is a moment to recognise how far the organisation has come and to look ahead to the work that remains.
After 20 years, the story continues.
A story of people, partnerships, healthcare and, above all, the power of being able to make informed choices about one’s own future.
