Leadership is not only about holding a position. It is about serving people, creating opportunities, and making a difference in society. This is the story of Rita Owusu Brempong, an educationist, Director of Primus Hybrid School, and the new President of the Rotary Club of Accra Spintex.

Rita Owusu Brempong’s Passion for Education and Service

Before becoming President of the Rotary Club of Accra Spintex, Rita Owusu Brempong built her career around education. As an educationist and Director of Primus Hybrid School, she has spent years helping to shape young minds and promote values such as discipline, excellence, and responsibility.

Her passion for education connects strongly with her belief in service. For Rita, developing people and improving communities are part of the same journey.

A New Chapter for Rotary Club of Accra Spintex

Rita officially assumed office as President of the Rotary Club of Accra Spintex during a handover ceremony that also marked the club’s 14th anniversary since it was chartered.

The ceremony brought together Assistant Governors, Past Assistant Governors, Past Presidents, Rotarians, Rotaractors, guests, and members of sister Rotary clubs to celebrate the achievements of the club and welcome a new leadership team.

In her speech, Rita expressed gratitude to the outgoing President and the Board for their contribution to the growth of the club. She also thanked members for trusting her with the responsibility of leading the club.

Rita’s Vision for Growth and Community Impact

Speaking to members, Rita reminded them of the values that guide Rotary.

“We are people of action. We are people who serve others,” she said, encouraging members to continue working together to improve lives.

Using the Ghanaian saying, “It takes a village to raise a child,” she explained that meaningful change requires teamwork and commitment from everyone.

Under her leadership, the Rotary Club of Accra Spintex plans to focus on membership growth, community projects, and stronger partnerships.

The club aims to increase its membership by 40 percent while ensuring new members feel welcomed and valued.

Supporting Communities Through Rotary Projects

Community service will remain a major focus during Rita’s tenure.

The club plans to continue its annual beach clean-up project at the Regional Maritime University Beach while placing more attention on tree planting and environmental protection.

Other planned activities include:

  • Making the annual Art Expo more community-focused and educational.
  • Donating poly tanks to selected schools.
  • Partnering with hospitals for breast cancer screening and awareness programmes.
  • Working with other Rotary and Rotaract clubs on joint projects.

Strengthening The Rotary Foundation

Rita’s leadership agenda also includes strengthening the club’s support for The Rotary Foundation.

The club also hopes to produce more Benefactors while increasing its online visibility by sharing stories about its projects and impact.

A Leader Who Believes in Teamwork

Throughout her speech, Rita emphasised the importance of unity.

“I believe in this club. I believe in each one of you. We have the men and women. When we come together with one purpose, we can touch lives, transform communities, and bring hope to many people,” she said.

She promised to lead with humility, honesty, transparency, and dedication, but also called on members to give their support, time, and energy.

Honouring Those Who Supported Her Journey

Rita also used the occasion to appreciate the people who supported her Rotary journey. She thanked her husband and family for their encouragement and recognised Past President Prince, who introduced her to the Rotary Club of Accra Spintex.

She also expressed gratitude to her mentor, Charter President Sika, for her guidance and support.

“I’m still learning, and I promise to be a good student,” she said.

Building a Legacy Through Leadership

The Rotary Club of Accra Spintex has over the years undertaken several humanitarian activities, including the annual beach clean-up, the “Exciting The Artist in You” Art Festival, and other community projects.

For Rita Owusu Brempong, her one-year presidency is an opportunity to continue a culture of service and create a positive impact.

Her journey shows that leadership is not only about position. It is about using experience, passion, and commitment to serve others.
